This
is the next step taken to allow users to be able to enter comments on each LB
number entry.
This
phase uses email to communicate between users and the database. The user clicks
on a web page link and up should pop a pre-addressed formatted email. The user
fills in the blanks and sends off the email to an automated program to verify
and read the email, store it in the database, and eventually send back a
confirmation reply. New comments or user information will appear with the next
batch update of the web pages which may be in several days.
The
information required for registration is a username, password, optional
description or profile, and your email address. The email address that is
important here is the reply to email on messages you are sending. That email
address will be used to match you up with your username when you post comments.
Your email will not be displayed on any web page unless you choose to enter it
into the body of a comment or into your user profile description. Try to choose
your username and password carefully. The username is what you want to be known
by on comments you enter. The password must be entered for identification
confirmation each time you enter a comment. The password and username must be
at least 2 characters each.
So
to get registered, you will need to click on the link below. Enter into the
email body a username and a password. The email body will be preformatted with
sections and you enter your appropriate information into each section. Do not
change the subject or the section headers or your email will fail to get
processed. Do not enter any accents or special characters. For example don’t
put an accent on Senor. This database only handles characters displayed on a
typical English keyboard. Also any tab or carriage return or line feed
characters will be replaced by spaces so try to put your comments into a
paragraph. And if you know how, please do not enter html formatting characters.
The
registration is a 2 part phase. After you send that first registration message,
it should make its way to an automated program which will process that message
and send you a response. If everything went well the response should be asking
you to reply back to the email to confirm your registration. So to complete
your registration, you need to reply and send that message back. When your
reply gets processed, you should get a registration success message and be
registered.
You
may get a failure message back if there was something wrong with your messages
or the program being tested. There is no person reading these messages so don’t
look for help by sending a message to that email. Ask on the yahoo group for
help if you need it as others may be having the same problem. It can take time
to get the reply response back to you. If you try to register again before
getting your confirmation email, the new registration will cancel out your
previous registration attempt and void your reply to the confirmation message
from that registration. So it is best to be patient.
This is the link to
generate the first email you must send for registering:
For those wanting a more in
depth description and explanation of the above instructions and direction may

Once registered, users may
start entering comments on an LB number. The last link at the bottom of the LB
number detail page should generate a preformatted email. Enter in your password
and your comment and send. You should receive a confirmation back. These should
be sent with the same reply to email address used for registration. (If you
need to send comments from multiple emails, you may register more than once
using those different emails but use the same username and password. as before).
Your comments should be displayed on the next batch update.
Comments should be on topic
and refer to the quality of the recording or recording version or to correct
some misinformation.
Comments may be changed or
deleted by the user who created them. To change or delete a comment go to that
LB number detail and click on the link to generate a comment. Enter your
password and for the comment body enter “delete” or “change” as the beginning
of the comment followed by the comment number to be affected. For a change you
may then follow the comment number with the new text of the comment. For a
delete you may follow the comment number with an optional reason for the
deletion.
Don’t change the subject or
the section headers or your email will fail to get processed.
Don’t enter any accents or
special characters. For example don’t put an accent on Senor. This database
only handles characters displayed on a typical English keyboard. Also any tab
or carriage return or line feed characters will be replaced by spaces so try to
put your comments into a paragraph.
If you know how please do not
enter html formatting characters.
Also be nice and respect
others’ opinions as I don’t want these comments to degenerate into another forum
for occasional hate posts like occurs on rec.music.dylan or as happened on
bobdylan.com. Users can get banned and comments deleted by moderators if it has
to come to that which I hope it doesn’t because that would ruin it.
Hopefully eventually the
interface will be upgraded.
As more comments get entered
there may be reports showing the latest comments. Also reports showing the
users, their profile, and their comments
